AKA design offers interior designs of commercial spaces (stores, offices, trade fair stands, event scenography, beauty salons, pubs, restaurants, cafes and night clubs, dental salons, schools and kindergartens) and residential spaces (designs of single-family houses and flats, re-designing of existing interiors, design of individual furniture, kitchens and bathrooms) along with the designer’s supervision, comprehensive implementation of atypical construction and the designer’s furniture. We also offer decorating services (selection of ready-made furniture, paintings, graphics, wallpapers, fabrics and decorative elements), consulting (individual consultations, supervision inspection for corporate clients, consultations in the field of merchandising), elevation design, as well as minor design work, graphic information and visualization of ready-made projects.

We also offer our clients translations of architectural projects from English, together with the adaptation to requirements of the Polish legal regulations, as well as full service for foreign clients in English and Italian.

Stages of cooperation:

1. Meeting with the client: every detail, expectations, tastes and even personal impressions matter
2. Measurement: if the client does not have any sketch with dimensions or CAD documentation, we can provide setting out measurement
3. Concept: 3D visualizations + basic top view
4. Executive measurements: the designer must once again be sure about all the precise dimensions from the construction site; as based on them, we will make executive drawings
5. Executive documentation: the accepted concept is subjected to technical processing: projections, cross-sections, wall foundations, material and color combinations, hardware specifications and technical descriptions
6. Designer’s supervision, investment supervision or full performance: the project goes to the contractors, and the designer begins the last stage of work between the construction site and workshops that produce furniture and other finishing elements.

AKA design was founded in 2004 by three designers, who left Bemarc Architekci a year earlier, an agency known for projects of large Polish and German commercial chains such as “Carry”, “House of Colors”, “New Yorker”, “Sunset Suits” and “Reserved”. Their projects attracted the attention of the media for the first time. The prestigious Polish monthly “Architektura” published an article entitled “Discreet Charm of Elegance” with the photos of “Carry” stores (9/2001). In 2004, during The Poznan International Fair, the stand designed by Joanna Bartkowiak for Galeria LEGE with AKA design furniture, attracted the interest of a TV producer. In 2004 and 2005, the office designed two television studios for TV Biznes:- first in Poznan, then in Warsaw, and from August 2009 to September 2010, our projects were showcased in television programs “4 walls” and two editions of “Stars’ Apartments” with the participation of Polish celebrities such as the film director Filip Bajon and Olympic gold medalist Waldemar Nogalski.

In 2018, during a short internship at the University of Catania in Sicily, Joanna Bartkowiak collaborated with the Faculty of Architecture in Syracuse assisting Professor Vittorio Fiore in scenography and preparation of the retrospective exhibition of ancient theatrical performances of Syracuse entitled “Antica Mirabilia “. The book ‘U Cussu’ published by the cultural association I.M.IDE. in conjunction with the University of Catania features concepts of the revitalization process of the oldest district of Catania and contains drawings and paintings by Joanna Bartkowiak.
